Brazilian police have conducted an operation against the popular influencer couple Pedro Vitor and Aline Cavanellas, who live in Lagoa Santa. The couple, with an audience of 3.6 million people on Instagram, were accused of money laundering of about $3.7 million.

The investigation claims that bloggers artificially fuelled interest in the Fortune Tiger online slot by posting videos with fake big winnings and encouraging subscribers to get involved in gambling.

According to the police, the couple used the money earned from the “scheme traffic” to purchase expensive real estate — a total of 15 objects, including luxury homes. According to law enforcement officials, such actions served as a way to legalise illegal income from offshore operators that could be linked to servers in Malta.

During searches on November 11, seven cars, mobile phones and documents potentially confirming financial manipulation were seized from the couple. The investigation is ongoing, and its scale has already attracted the attention of the whole country, given the significant audience of the accused on social networks.
