Brazil is on its way to starting the biggest iGaming reform—the government is to legalize gambling to eliminate the grey market and get billions in tax revenues. The bill discussion is one of the loudest iGaming industry events.

What about gambling in Brazil now?

Land-based casinos have been prohibited in Brazil since 1946—while online gambling and betting in the region are legal and continue to bring billions to its government. Yet its finance minister has said that it has mixed priorities—it’s crucial to decide on the destiny of land-based casinos first.

What will the Gambling Bill in Brazil change?

The Senate prepares to vote for Bill №2.234/2022, which can lead to casino legalization in the country. Land-based casinos will work only as a part of touristic resorts (hotels, restaurants, and entertainment centers). This will prevent money laundering and focus mostly on land-based casinos. The government plans to spend a part of casino tax money on healthcare, education, and safety.

Experts believe that it will create 200 thousand jobs and attract 70 billion in investments per year. Yet, there’s not an exact voting date yet.
