Indonesia has taken a big step in the fight against online gambling by freezing more than 28,000 bank accounts linked to gambling transactions. The move was announced by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK), which said it’s to protect the public from the growing threat of online gambling platforms.

According to PPATK Chairman Ivan Yustiavandana, the crackdown is part of a bigger effort to dismantle online gambling networks and stop the flow of illegal funds through the banking system. The operation also targets gambling syndicates that operate under the guise of legal businesses.

It’s causing a stir on social media where many users are reporting their accounts are frozen even though they claim they have no involvement in gambling. Authorities admitted that mistakes might happen but said they need to protect citizens from financial exploitation.

  • Over 5,000 platforms have been blacklisted in the past year.
  • Authorities are working with tech companies to block gambling apps and websites.
  • Bank customers are advised to report suspicious transactions immediately.

This is a big move against gambling in Indonesia — but also raises questions about data accuracy and user rights in mass enforcement.
