PokerStars might be back in the Netherlands soon, as new evidence suggests they’re working on a region specific site for Dutch players. Assets in the international client suggest they’re either preparing or have already tested a localized version – joining the likes of Denmark, Romania and Sweden, where PokerStars operate under national licenses.
This development follows a July report from CasinoNieuws.nl, which said PokerStars was looking into a potential re-entry via a partnership with a locally licensed operator. This would allow them to navigate the Dutch regulatory waters more smoothly and avoid the delays that come with solo licensing.
PokerStars left the Netherlands in 2021 when they withdrew their license application and there’s a big gap in the market. With global traffic slowing and regional competition heating up, the Dutch market might be a strategic opportunity for the poker giant to get back in.
No timeline for re-entry has been announced yet – but the pieces are being put in place.
