YouTube CEO Neal Mohan has announced a series of major platform updates planned for 2026, including expanded AI-powered content creation tools and deeper integration of in-app shopping.

According to Mohan’s annual letter, YouTube will continue investing in AI to simplify and scale content production. Upcoming features include AI-assisted Shorts creation, tools for generating music and interactive content, and further development of Playables—allowing creators to build simple games from text prompts.

On the commerce side, YouTube plans to strengthen its in-app shopping ecosystem by enabling seamless checkout directly within the platform. This will allow viewers to purchase products without leaving YouTube, while creators gain more advanced tools to integrate brand partnerships and shopping links into long-form videos and Shorts.

The company also confirmed ongoing updates to Shorts formats, including image-based posts, alongside continued efforts to manage the quality and authenticity of AI-generated content.
