The Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) has stated that they will reduce the number of licensed betting sites by almost 8 times, from 407 to 52, as of the new gambling reform.
The radical decision is connected with a new market regulation system that will come into power on the 13th of November.
Now each license is allowed to work for one particular site, which bans the so-called “skin” sites that resell the services of legal operators. The licenses will be given to 46 big operators, including international ones such as Flutter Entertainment.
The annual betting market size in Italy is USD 21 billion, while taxes are more than 8 billion euro, and the upcoming licensing has already brought 365 million euro to the government and overcome the target metrics set by the Ministry of Economy.
Experts believe that the reform will strengthen the positions of big international operators and lead to harsher times for smaller companies.
