Portugal’s gambling regulator SRIJ has released draft amendments to the country’s online gambling legislation, aiming to formally regulate several popular iGaming features for the first time.

The proposals cover bonus buy options and bet modifiers in online casinos, as well as bet builder tools and cashout functionality in online sports betting. If adopted, the changes would introduce a single, standardised framework for all licensed operators.

Under the draft rules, players would be allowed to purchase a bonus feature for a price not exceeding four times the original stake, and no more than twice per gaming session. Bet modifiers, which allow players to adjust their wager size within a game, would be capped at a maximum increase of 50% over the base bet, with an absolute limit of €10. In addition, this feature could only be activated for up to four consecutive spins.

For sports betting, the proposals would formally regulate bet builders and cashout options. One notable provision states that any cancelled event included in a bet must be settled at odds of 1.00, ensuring consistent treatment across platforms and preventing disputes over settlement calculations.

SRIJ has opened a public consultation period lasting 20 working days, starting from January 27. Stakeholders, including operators and industry associations, are invited to submit feedback before the regulator finalises the amendments.
