The first licensed online casino has been launched in the United Arab Emirates: Play971.ae.
The project has received permission from the UAE’s General Regulator of Commercial Gaming. At the current stage, the platform is operating in test mode: the site is available to users in Abu Dhabi and Ras al Khaimah but does not open in Dubai.
According to iGaming Business data, the project is managed by Coin Technology Projects LLC, which has the same legal address as The Game LLC, the operator of the UAE Lottery national lottery. Yet, there is no official confirmation that this is the same business, but the notes about such a connection may inform about the close cooperation of market participants.
The Play971 website features games from well-known online casino providers. The main part of the product range is slots and board games developed by OneTouch (Yolo Group). iGaming Business reports that the launch of Play971.ae is in a trial format, and the official release of the platform is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
As per the country’s legislation, each emirate can issue one online licence, so theoretically other similar operators may appear in the Emirates in the future.
