Telegram has announced a new feature – Pixel Tag. This tool is a must for everyone who runs Telegram ad campaigns and needs to track analytics.
What is Telegram Ads Pixel?
The Pixel Tag is a tool that helps you to monitor user traffic to external websites and track specific actions users take after interacting with Telegram Ads. This feature gives you detailed insights into your campaign performance: impressions, clicks, CTR, on-site behavior.
While the Pixel Tag automatically tracks when users visit a website, you can customize it to track more specific actions like purchase, sign up, subscribe to a newsletter and more. All data is aggregated and anonymized so user privacy is protected and individuals can’t be identified.
Note: The Pixel Tag only tracks activity outside of Telegram. Any activity within Telegram is not tracked at all.
In general, Telegram Pixel feature is a special JavaScript code that is embedded on the advertiser’s website. It includes two elements:
- Base Code is the base code that is placed on all pages of the site and is necessary for pixel initialization;
- Event Code is an event code that is added to specific pages or site elements that reflect key user actions.
Once installed, advertisers will have access to advanced analytics in the Telegram Ads interface. They can now track CPA for each event: order, add to cart, subscribe, submit form and other key user actions.
The Pixel Tag can be added to a website’s code or via tag management systems. After setup, it’s recommended to test it by following the full user journey from ad click to desired action. If set up correctly, Telegram Ads will capture the events and show them in the analytics dashboard.
Note: Currently, Telegram Ads does not support automatic event-based optimization. The Pixel is solely used for gathering statistics, similar to how channel subscriptions are tracked.
